I’m Dr. Jason McGhee, educational leader, speaker, and leadership coach who partners with district leaders, superintendents, and conference decision-makers to strengthen leadership capacity without sacrificing people in the process.

For more than 20 years, I’ve worked inside complex school systems—classrooms, central offices, board rooms, and communities—helping leaders navigate change, reduce burnout, retain strong educators, and build cultures where adults and students can thrive.

I don’t believe leadership starts with titles. It starts with people. I call it, Magnanimous Leadership.

Magnanimous Leadership is grounded in my experience as an urban school principal, where I led through complexity, crisis, and change without losing sight of people. My work helps leaders build strong cultures, hold high standards, and lead in ways that sustain both their organizations and themselves.

This approach isn’t theoretical. It’s been tested in real schools, under real pressure, with real stakes.

My career began in Lansing Public Schools as a classroom teacher, where I learned that relationships—not initiatives—drive outcomes. I went on to serve as a high and middle school assistant principal, an elected board member of the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals, and later as an elementary and high school principal.

In 2015, I was selected to lead a school performing in the bottom five percent statewide. Through strategic leadership, instructional clarity, and collective accountability, we moved that school off the priority list and ultimately led it to become an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme World School.

As a high school principal, I have:

  • Led a $30-million, multi-year renovation project

  • Secured over $300,000 in grant funding for STEM programming

  • Guided large teams through change without losing trust or talent

  • Partnered with national thought leaders to expand student and staff opportunity

  •

I understand the pressure district leaders face—because I’ve lived it.

Today, I work with districts, leadership teams, and organizations across the country on challenges that keep leaders up at night:

  • Reducing principal and district leader burnout

  • Increasing teacher retention and engagement

  • Strengthening leadership pipelines

  • Leading change without fracturing culture

  • Improving communication across schools, families, and communities

  • Building restorative, emotionally intelligent leadership systems

Whether delivering a keynote, facilitating a leadership institute, or coaching executive teams, my focus is always the same: practical clarity, honest reflection, and sustainable leadership practices that last beyond the event.

Beyond the Bio

I’m a husband, a father of three, and a firm believer that leaders don’t need to be fixed—they need to be supported. I also bring creativity into my work through cooking and curated dining experiences, using food as another way to create connection, story, and belonging.

If you’re looking for a speaker or leadership partner who understands both the human and systemic sides of education—and can speak to both with credibility and heart—I’d welcome the opportunity to work with you.

Let’s build leadership that lasts.

Leadership is hard. Leading systems is harder. Sustaining people while doing it is the real work.
